Here you can enjoy Italian regional classics and wood-fired Neapolitan Pizza served around the centuries-old game of bocce ball.
Bocce is one of the oldest games on earth. Though this unique precision game owes its origins to ancient games played around 5200 B.C., it was developed into its present form by Italians, and is now played all throughout Europe as both a competitive sport and a form of casual fun with friends and family. Thanks to many Italian immigrants at the turn of the century, Bocce has come to flourish in the United States.
Similar to lawn bowling or shuffleboard, it is played on a long court and can be played with two teams of two. Dante has a 40 foot indoor court made of authentic “Bocce Turf” and is one of only a handful of indoor Bocce courts in operation throughout the entire country.
This game only takes five minutes to learn, and is for everyone. Join us for a beer, cocktail or a selection from our all-Italian wine list of your choice and enjoy!
BOCCE RULES
- A game consists of two teams of two.
- The Winner of the previous game will begin the match by tossing the pallino (small target ball).
- The pallino must pass the middle of the court and may not hit the back wall.
- The first ball will be rolled (no lofting) by the team who originally tossed the pallino. The ball must not hit the back wall unless it has touched a ball prior to striking wall. A ball striking the back wall must be removed from play. It may hit the side walls.
- After the first team throws, the challenging team then throws their ball. Teams alternate rolling their balls.
- One point is awarded to the team ball closest to the pallino. Only one team may score per round and the scoring team may score up to four points in a round.
- Game is over when one team reaches seven points.
- The winner stays on the court.
